Board CARE

Caring for your Cutting Board

1)The most important thing to know is that these boards should not be put in the dishwasher or immersed in water.  Your cutting board should require little care, but depending on usage and environment, some care may be needed to restore it to its original condition. We recommend that you coat the board liberally with food grade mineral oil about 3 times per year, or when it appears to be dry. Should you desire, you may sand the board lightly with 150 grit sandpaper, then apply the mineral oil. Let the oil soak in then wipe off any excess. Coat it with a beeswax (Wood Butter, Cutting Board Wax etc.) for the final step then rub down with a soft clean cloth.

2)After washing your board, dry immediately and let it sit on the cutting board feet. This will help to prevent any moisture build-up, or even worse, any potential bowing/warping of the wood. The best place for the cutting board is on the counter top. This allows for good airflow around the board so that it can breathe. Do not store sitting on its side.

3)If your cutting board retains any odours, cut a lemon in half, and rub it over the board this does wonders. Let sit for a few minutes. Wipe thoroughly with soap and warm water, and then dry.

Tip: Can't get rid of that smell?  Use some white vinegar and repeat the process.

4)If you find that your board has a food stain, you can put some baking soda on the board and rub the stain with half of a cut lemon. Make sure to rinse with hot water and dry with a clean towel.

Tip: Stains should never really appear if you are conditioning your board regularly and cleaning the board after use.
